disappointing! March 21, 2008 Someone (Bethesda, Maryland USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We recently gave this to our son for his second birthday. We already had the Mighty Motorized Fire Truck which is great and has always been a big hit with my son, so I was excited to find this. I have to say I am very disappointed in the quality - I expected better from Tonka. First of all the doors don't fully open, so my son can't get the men in and out - even my husband and I have trouble doing this. Once you get them men inside it's nearly impossible to have them sit in the seats - the space is just too small. The back door latch is faulty, and the horn/reverse beeps switch is reversed! We have not been pleased with this purchase
Trash Truck Heaven! January 2, 2008 Francis We gave this to our son for Christmas! Unfortunately, we gave it to him first because he didn't want to open any of his other toys and just wanted to play with his new truck. He finally opened some of the other packaged only to get the paper to make trash for his trash truck. He is in trash truck heaven!!! He even showed it off to our trash man the next delivery who was equally impressed. This truck has sounds and functionality and even comes with action figures. My son is quite rough on it and it takes quite a beating too! We would totally recommend this toy to anyone!
Garbage truck fun July 29, 2007 S. Hoey (Ferndale, MI) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My 3 yr. old son picked this item out on his own with a gift certificate he received. He has thoroughly enjoyed playing with it (so have I)! The truck is very realistic with a dumpster that is lifted on motorized forks (controlled with a lever) and dumped into the top of the truck. You can then turn a wheel/crank to move the dumped items into the back of the truck. The back opens up to remove or dump your items. A sign and figurine also come with it. It has sounds that are activated with buttons or a lever. When activated by a lever the sounds stay on until switched off (which can be annoying). The only drawback is that the truck is fairly large and takes up quite a bit of room in the toy box. It has held up well with his rough play.
This is not Tonka quality January 16, 2007 SWC (Massachusetts) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am not overly impressed with the Tonka "Mighty Motorized" or "Lights & Sounds" line. My son received the "Lights & Sound" fire engine for Christmas and the ladder (which is supposed to rotate) worked for about 10 min. He is not particularly rough with this toys, so I am doubtful that he broke it. Unless of course his attempting to rotate the ladder manually (as opposed to the electronic switch) broke the mechanism. I would think most children might attempt to move the ladder on their own and if this were a quality toy, that should not be a problem. So the ladder does not work. I was researching how to return this or fix it and I found out that this is a Tonka toy in name only. It is actually manufactured by a company called Funrise. Tonka has licensed their name to them. "Real" Tonka trucks would definitely live up to normal kid use. My son also has the "Might Motorized" garbage truck. Relatively soon, the latch that holds the back hatch of the truck closed broke so now the hatch just hangs open. Also, for whatever reason, the sanitation worker figure that comes with this toy barely fits into the driver's seat. It is impossible for a child (my son is 3) to get him wedged in, he needs the help of an adult to insert or remove the guy. It's not especially easy for an adult to do either. Again, my son LOVES trucks and treats his toys pretty reverently. I am just not impressed with the quality of these toys.
4 years old son loved the garbage truck January 9, 2007 Kathy (Pawtucket, RI) I bought this garbage truck for my son's 4th birthday and he loved it. Luckily its strong and of good quality and can take a beating! We have a hard time getting the guy to sit in the seat right so he just gets thrown in sideways, but that's fine with my son. He goes around the house picking up stuff in the garbage truck and emptying it in the trash though, things we don't want thrown away.
