4 out of 5 stars The Thomas Craze Continues   October 15, 2008
R. J. Thomas
My little boy is a HUGE Thomas fan so, of course, he loved this flashlight and the train sounds it makes!

3 out of 5 stars Ok toy, not a flashlight   September 11, 2008
Todd (San Mateo, CA United States)
I, the adult around here, like this toy and would give it 4 stars, but my 2 1/2 year old, who loves trains, has never really gotten into it, so I give it 3 stars on his behalf. It makes choo-chooing sounds and steam sounds (I think those are the only sounds) and has rolling wheels. It's also bigger than most Thomas toys - it's about the size of a shoe box for toddlers' shoes.

I don't know why they call it a flashlight, though - it's completely worthless as a flashlight. Even my son, who loves flashlights and has a fairly generous definition of what qualifies as a "flashlight" (we have a little strobe light that flashes red lights to wear on after-dark walks, and calls it the "tiny flashlight") never considered it to be a flashlight. For a variety of reasons, it doesn't work as a flashlight - the cover of the light has Thomas's face painted on it, so it casts strange jack-o-lantern like shadows in the middle of the light, the light is very dim and it doesn't have a reflector behind the light, so there's no beam, just very dim, dispersed light. To see anything with it, you pretty much have to be on top of what you're looking at (it's about as effective as a flashlight as your cell phone). Also, as someone else said, the flashlight part breaks easily - even though my son doesn't play with this toy much, the light still broke. That said, kids (other than mine) who don't need a functional flashlight might enjoy it.

5 out of 5 stars A light at bedtime   May 17, 2008

Just having the flashlight in his crib has added that sometimes needed security for a 2 1/2 year old. The flashlight itself is cute and appears safe to be left in a bed with a child.

5 out of 5 stars Lots of fun!   January 20, 2008

My son loves this toy. He is really into the sounds it makes and especially the light. He has lots of fun playing with this toy. I recommmed this flashlight to any child that is into lights and trains. Its a great buy.

4 out of 5 stars Nice sound and light for a train   June 11, 2007
D. Sato (Grapevine, TX USA)
My son is not completely into the Thomas line like other kids but he enjoys the sound and flashlight from this Thomas piece. Another kid had it and when he saw it he wouldn't let go of it so I ended up getting one for him. He will push it around and use the light in dark places. He is only 2 1/2 years old so problably when he gets older I can see him sleeping with it in bed. Our light bulb stopped working after just a couple days so we had to buy a replacement bulb which fortunately is not very expensive. I am not sure how durable it is as we have been careful not to drop it but it is made of hard plastic. Nice combination of train sound and flashlight for the little one.
