Flimsy light with bad connector December 18, 2007 John Dow (Indian Head, MD USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased one of these in lights in October 2006, and commuted with it for 13 months. At that point I began to get an intermittent connection in the waterproof battery connector, which snaps together very tightly and was always difficult to get together. My previous HID Light, a Cateye Stadium 3, lasted five years, so I was very disappointed in this one. I agree with the other reviewers that it works very well when new. However I wouldn't recommend buying a light that that is so poorly engineered. I've seen other reviewers elsewhere on the web that had the same problem: failure shortly after the warranty expires.
Topeak MoonShine HID Bicycle Light June 22, 2007 D. Watts (Australia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great light. It gives a wide coverage and depth of viewing is good(But not the depth of a spot light). I did have trouble with the lead in the switch separating from the circuit board and had to get it repaired. Be wary about wiggling the leads too much. The length of lighting on the 10 watt setting does not quite match the specs. However, the 7 watt setting is very, very similar in brightness and therefore not a problem(the burn time on this setting seems to match the specs). While it is expensive, it is worth the extra money if a top of the range light is what is needed without going ridiculously overboard and buying a hugely expensive system. That was then, this is now It is really a dud! It has been twelve months since I made this comment and I find myself in agreement with an earlier reviewer... this light is poorly designed. I have had the wiring to the switch re-soldered and recently the circuit-board switch gave out. Unfortunately I did not realise this and purchased a new bulb thinking this was the obvious solution (minus $200 Aust) only to find it was not. I have also bought a spare battery (again not cheap). Now I am stuck with dud gear or pay another $300+ to purchase a whole new light and switch assembly. Beware! Doug Watts
Nice battery mount January 11, 2007 Divot 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
So far this light is exactly what I needed. It's very bright, simple to use, and I really like the way the battery mounts on top of the handlebar stem cap (a new stem cap comes in the package). There are a few slightly lighter weight HID light systems out there but you can't beat the price.
let there be light January 5, 2007 Mr. Mark Klink (San Francisco, California) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This light takes all the guess work out of riding in the dark. It's lightweight (good because i have to lift my bike up stairs). The little dangly (red/yellow) thing is the switch and display. It has small red/yellow/green lights inside it to indicate battery status and you can mount this on the handlebars. The HID light can be detached from the mount which is good when i flip the bike over for maintenance. I get about 1.5 hours at full strengh and then it switches to the lower setting for another 30 minutes. I can't really tell the difference between the high/low settings anyway. Charge time is 2.5 hours. It first discharges the battery to keep it happy. The manual says you get 300-500 cycles/charges per battery before it's down to 80%, and the light lasts 1000 hours. update: As per other reviews ... it will only last 12 months ... i'm on my 2nd now ... the first one stopped charging after 12 months and i kept using the old light with new battery for another few months and then the light failed as well.
