About Blackburn
In 1975, Jim Blackburn set out to design stronger, lighter, more innovative and more reliable cycling products. The first were bags and racks designed for touring. From there, Blackburn grew. Over the next 30 years, Blackburn's spark of innovation would lead to many revolutionary products, like the first high quality aircraft aluminum rack, the first dual stroke minipump, the first oversized mountain minipump and the first dual stage/dual stroke floorpump just to name a few. For 2005, Blackburn's creative spark is burning brighter than ever. And as we head into our 30th year, Blackburn is re-dedicated to designing smart, reliable, no nonsense accessories that are essential to your riding experience.

1 out of 5 stars What were they thinking?   September 3, 2008
Velobob (Ottawa, Canada)
This product is horribly over-packaged and inappropriately over-engineered. The day after I bought mine, I opened up the packaging and discovered that, to change batteries, it was necessary to extract three very small screws which were too small to be opened with any standard cycle-tool or coin. I did a trial run at home, in the comfort of my living room, and I realized that this was a non-starter. I commute year-round in eastern Canada so there is a high probability that a battery change would be necessary in the dark (obviously), and possibly when cold, raining, or snowing. I can almost guarantee a dropped screw or two while attempting this. To make it worse, corrosion from road salt sprayed up while riding would compromise the whole screw arrangement. This aspect of the design is completely counter-intuitive if night riding is a regular occurrence and makes absolutely no sense at all. For the casual or recreational rider who only rides in nice weather on weekends in the non-winter months, this might not be a bad lighting system, as long as they carry a tiny screw-driver (about the same size as those used for adjusting eye-glasses, perhaps slightly larger). This is the first time I've ever seen this type of arrangement - everything I've previously used required only a coin or the edge of a house-key.

If you are a serious commuter do not get this light.

I returned this to the bike shop at the earliest opportunity, without ever using it, and bought a $7.00 tail-light at MEC (Canada's equivalent to REI).

4 out of 5 stars Awesome Tail Light...   July 23, 2008

The tail light comprises of extremely bright L.E.D.s that not only shine to the rear but also to the sides of the bike. The only downfall is the cumbersome clip which is far from sturdy....

Mine fell off while in front of a bus and the next thing I knew it was broken into 3 pieces....but I'll buy another if not attempt to call the company and see what they can do. All and all I'd recommend it...but don't rely on the clip which keeps it mounted to the bike....

5 out of 5 stars Good Even As A Rescue Device!   July 4, 2008

Have 2 of these. I even carry one on my motorcycles in case I crash and end up off the road to help in being seen if need be. These are honestly SO bright (I used to work in Law Enforcement), that I consider them far more useful than simply a bicycle safety item. It can be used in so many different ways, one should be carried in everything you use for transportation & recreation....

I second all the plus/minuses from other reviews on the Blackburn Quadrant Mars 3.0 Combo Bicycle Light Set. It's a great little kit to have on your bike. Love the rear Light. Blackburn Quadrant and Mars 3.0 Combo Bicycle Light Set.

Use in conjunction with Planet Bike Blinky Super Flash Tail Light and you should be set. Use a High Visibility ANSI Class 2 Safety Vest to be seen in the dark as well. GLoWEAR Class 2 Economy Vest, Lime, L/XL #21025 / 8210HL
