pedal issue October 1, 2008 Barleys Pedals turn clock wise on the crank arm and most come with a sticker or indentation in pedal with "L" OR "R" marked on the spindle. Make sure you have the pedals on the right arms. Just a suggestion.
Girl's 20" bike January 12, 2008 Doting Parents (Florida) We took the bike to a shop to ensure it was put together correctly and adjusted to my daughter's needs. She is enjoying it. The bike seems to shift and brake well and meets her needs.
Expected quality January 11, 2008 S. Means (Calvert County, MD) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased both a Boy's and a Girl's version of this bike at the same time. They are of expected quality. The Girl's version required me to disassemble the cranks as the chain ring was rubbing on the the chainstay. I'm not sure if the production tolerances were the cause of it or not, but it definitely should have been caught had there been any quality control inspection. I was able to insert a washer to provide proper sufficient spacing, but it was still close. The Boy's version had at least a 1/4" spacing.
Not for children 7 yrs.old January 7, 2008 Pat Cole (Kihei, Maui, Hi.) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This bike arrived in a box that was really badly torn. The bike was scratched and torn in several spots. The bike was ordered for my 7 year old grandaughter and it was not compatible with her hand size for the handlebar braking system. In addition to the wide grip it was overly difficult to squeeze. For the reasons listed above the bike was returned and my grandaughter had to wait for her Christmas bike. We instead went to a bike shop and of course found the perfect bike.
Beware of right pedal May 8, 2007 R. West (MI) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
My daughter loves this bike, and so I would have given it 5 stars, but... some moron at the manufacturer decided to turn this thing into a death trap. I don't know if it was out of pure stupidity, or a desire to save a few pennies by making all the same pedals... no, that would be stupidity as well because sooner or later they will be sued over this. Anyway, normally, on any other bike you see, the right pedal has a backwards thread on it so that it will not back itself out as the child rides. My daughter was riding two days ago and her right pedal just fell off. It didn't break, it just backed out of the crank. Fortunately, she was not injured. I just can't believe this was designed like this. Their effort to save by using left pedals for both sides will likely cost them in a lawsuit should some other child not be so fortunate. I recommend using some form of loctite on the thread, if not exchanging the bike all together. I cannot stress enough the stupidity of this design. I've taken apart and rebuilt bikes since I was a kid and I have never seen anything like this before. For those who have not bought it yet, beware.
