Amazon Product Description
Don't let its pretty looks fool you. While it's definitely sleek and sporty enough for neighborhood riding, this girl's mountain bike from Pacific is ready to tackle the toughest terrains. Light blue with colorful graphics, the Crystal features a strong and sturdy frame with a front with a front suspension fork for excellent shock absorption even on the burliest of trails. The 6-speed grip-shift gears offer smooth and precise shifting between gears, and the front and rear alloy linear brakes provide dependable stopping power. The bike's low stand-over height frame makes getting on and off easy and safe.

3 out of 5 stars came damaged   February 21, 2007

this would be a great bike for a great price for my nine year old, but it came with the paint scraped down to the frame. We returned it for a new one which arrive the same way. Very frustating. We didn't feel we should have to paint a brand new bike. The company needs to pack the bike better. Trying to return the second bike has been a pain.

I'm the grandfather who assembled the bike. I am also a former bicycle store owner. Since by store closed some fifteen years ago, much of the technology of the bike was unfamiliar, but I had no problem figuring out what needed to be done.

First, although the bike was "virtually assembled", it was by no means a matter of throwing it together and handing it to the child. My major concern is that a parent unfamiliar with bicycle maintenance may not notice the problems that needed attention. My comments address the needs of those parents.

First, the brakes are by no means adjusted. Be certain that the brake pads hit the rim in the manner described in the manual. Also, there are small screws on the sides of the brakes to help in balancing the pull of both sides. The brake cables need to be stretched and then re-adjusted or the brakes will soon bottom out, leading to a no-stop bike. Second, although the rear shifter was correctly adjusted, the cable requires EXTREME tension in order for it to work properly. This is normal for this type of shifter, and bike shops have a special tool to set the tension. I got it using a lot of muscle along with the adjuster barrel on the shifter.

Besides those two caveats, the bike is a fine, if disposable, product. Do not expect to have much left over after your child outgrows it. If you want something better, go to a bike shop.

4 out of 5 stars Nice looking bike   January 22, 2007

Bought this for my 8 year old daughter. It's a little big for her but she handles it well. The handle grip shifting is a bit hard for her to manage so she uses it as a single speed for now. Bike was easy to assemble and looks very nice.

The Bike was very good quality for the price. Easy to assemble and my daughter loved it!! I would recommend it to a friend.

3 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for   January 15, 2007

This is a disposable bike. You can't knock the price, but don't expect a whole lot of bang for your buck.

In its favor, it comes almost completely assembled, so it only took 5-10 minutes to finish setting it up. Well...not exactly, read on.

The brakes needed lots of adjustment, both front and back. That's expected, I guess. But the levers are fairly hard to pull. Again, we're talking about a pretty cheap bike here. The shifter, though, is really bad. Out of the box, it wouldn't shift into the highest two gears. After some adjustments I got it working OK, but my daughter doesn't even have the arm strength to change gears yet.

Lastly, this bike is heavy. I'm sure this bike is perfect for some -- if I were a kid with no bike at all, I'd take this in a second. If you've got a tiny bit more money to spend, you'll have fewer headaches and a much happier kid in the end. Do yourself a favor and go to a bike shop.
