3 out of 5 stars Expected quality   January 11, 2008
S. Means (Calvert County, MD)
I purchased both a Boy's and a Girl's version of this bike at the same time. They are of expected quality. The Girl's version required me to disassemble the cranks as the chain ring was rubbing on the the chainstay. I'm not sure if the production tolerances were the cause of it or not, but it definitely should have been caught had there been any quality control inspection. I was able to insert a washer to provide proper sufficient spacing, but it was still close. The Boy's version had at least a 1/4" spacing.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Bike!!   January 9, 2008
C. DesCombes (Hattiesburg, MS)
We ordered this bike for my son for his birthday and he loves it. The box arrived with a hole in it so I was somewhat worried, but it looked great. The only problem we have had with it is getting the brakes to line up and function perfectly. My son doesn't care, he can pedal it, steer it, stop and especially crash it!!! He loves it!!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT bike!   January 2, 2008
Amy C. Crowley-poirier (Hudson, MA)
We got this bike for our son for Christmas. He is 6 and tall for his age. He is clearly on the verge of outgrowing his bike with the 18" wheels. And by spring/summer it will be more than a perfect fit. It was easy to assemble and the quality is really great! We couldn't be happier with the bike or the assembly of it. And the style of the bike has longevity written all over it since it's not character themed or decorated.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Value   December 30, 2007
AMS (Rockville MD)
Great value for a sturdy bike. My son loves this bike and really enjoys being able to shift gears. Only complaint is the handle bars are straight across which makes the riding position a little awkward and requires more upper body strength. We noticed some bikes the handle bars angle back towards the seat unlike this one. He's getting used to it though and it'll be easier as he gets taller (pretty much the minimum height for this bike now).

4 out of 5 stars Good for the price   October 1, 2007

5 out of 5 found this review helpful

Bought two of these bikes last summer for my 9 and 7 year old boys. We ride mostly street and some BMX/trails. I thought the bikes went together fairly easily, but I'm somewhat mechanically inclined. The brakes/gears were surprisingly well adjusted right out of the carton on ours. They seem to be good, solid (if a tad heavy) bikes that adapt well to mixed use- i.e. able to take a pounding on the trails and able to cruise fairly well (with the five speeds) on road trips. Drawbacks are the handlebars are a bit too low (can be fixed with a longer stem or different bars) and, of course, at this price you're not going to get the best gears/ brake/shifters etc. But I can see them lasting 4-5 years before larger, better bikes are required. It's hard to find a simple five speed bike in this size that doesn't have a bunch of faux BMX/mountain bike doo-dads tacked onto it (IMO this segment needs more bikes that follow the KISS principle). This fits the bill quite nicely.
