Product Description A sleek upscale version of the classic crossword game! You won't have to work upside-down with this rotating board! And ridged letter spaces keep all those high-scoring words in place! It's easy to keep game pieces together ---board features built-in storage, plus drawstring bag for tiles! Handsome burgundy wood tiles rest on large letter racks with letter distribution counter! Includes new "shorter game" rules, plus a timer! For 2 to 4 players. Winner of the CLASSIC Award by Parent's Choice Awards. Ages: 8 & UP.
Editorial Review It's still hard to get a triple word score, the tiles are still made of wood, there's only one "X" in the whole box, and family feuds are increasing exponentially. But after 50 years, Scrabble has had a face-lift: a swivel base allows the board to turn so players don't have to work upside down, a plastic grid helps keep tiles in line, and a handy bag stores the letters when they're not in use. The premise hasn't changed at all--two to four players battle it out to make high-scoring words from seven little letters--so choose a dictionary before play begins to avoid ugly confrontations. --Lynne Sampson

way overpriced December 2, 2008 Man child (Brooklyn, NY) This version is being phased out for the new diamond edition. Hence the outrageous pricing online. Cons: The board is made of flimsy feeling plastic Box is huge. Very hard to store if you are tight on space. Pros: Tiles are wood looks nice All in all it's scrabble a fun educational game but you could get that with any version without spending over a hundred dollars. If you feel you must get this take a serious look at the onyx version for fifty bucks. <-- if you wait for the right borders or bn coupon you can knock it down another twenty five percent.
Not worth the $ November 11, 2008 R. Kirk (Milwaukee, WI) For everyone trying to replace the hard plastic spinning model from 20 years ago... Stay away from this! It is cheap and cheesy. The board is made of molded cardboard with a plastic film on top. It's not even well connected to the frame, which is a cheap replica of the orignial. I got this as a gift for my mother and waas truly shocked at the poor quality. Buyer Beware!!!!
Wrong scrabble game November 9, 2008 Kathleen J. Wright I did not receive the game I had ordered as above. The game I did receive was the Diamond Edition, which I did see in the stores and it was much less than I actually payed by mail. The deluxe game was to be a replacement for my original deluxe scrabble which is 40 years old. I am disappointed that I did not receive the one sent for. I even tried at our local toy store and they did not carry it, so I was happy to see it on line....wrong one though.
Cheap Board October 7, 2008 Tabitha S. Rice (NJ) I enjoyed this new deluxe board because of its ability to rotate. However, I took it to a friend's house and left it in the car for about 2 hours the result was not pretty. The cheap overlay that forms the surface that you play on melted and warped. Despite attempts to reshape it I had to trash the whole set. For fifty dollars I think the manufacter could have made a product that stood up to 80 degree day.
A real disappointment from an old Scrabble fan September 19, 2008 Happy B (Fort Worth, Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My husband got this for my birthday. I have the old deluxe edition, but the turntable doesn't turn freely anymore, so I wanted a new one. I love playing scrabble and have been playing for more than 40 years! When I opened the box I couldn't believe the poor quality of this game. I can't imagine this holding up for more than a few games. The board is flimsy cardboard mounted on a cheap plastic grid, and the letter trays are the poorest quality plastic I've ever seen in a game! What happened to you MB to produce this horrible quality product and then sell for such an exorbitant price? You get what you pay for certainly does not apply to this item. Stick to the cheap model and you are more likely to get something usable. I hope I am able to return this item because I sure don't want it.
