A great product for catching pesky bugs August 9, 2008 J. Beck (California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this as a birthday present for my 4 year old grandson who is afraid of bugs. He also has a thing for guns. So I thought his interest in guns might help him overcome him fear of bugs. This is now his favorite toy! He buzzed through the first set of batteries in record time, as he rids his home of ants and spiders and flies, suck 'em up, check 'em out and then dump 'em out!
Neat Idea; No Power July 30, 2008 M. Banker 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an awesome and fun idea... if it had some power it would have been a lot more fun. Any bugs that were caught had to be scooped up into the tube as the suction was so low it didn't capture them. The magnifying glass made it very educational. We changed the batteries to try and improve the power, but that didn't make a difference. So, great idea, but I'd look for a better product.
You don't have to touch the insects! July 15, 2008 marmar99 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I never did receive this item from Discovery nor a response to 5 emails, nor a credit, even though DHL lists Discovery got it back 24 days ago. However, I did go to WalMart, and bought the same item by a different manufacturer. (I had to give my granddaughter something!) She loves it! (She just had her 6th birthday.) She and I caught bugs for our pet turtle at my house. She caught bugs to look at and show her friends at her house. And even caught yellow jacket bees at her other grandmother's house (not advising this). Most kids really don't want to touch insects. This allows them to by-pass that part of viewing and learning about bugs. It is a great idea. The one from WalMart does not have real strong suction, but it is really just enough. Even grown-ups like it - there are many bugs we do not like the idea of touching either! We also ordered the 'Talking Bug Identifier', but clearly Discovery cannot get it together, (I think we would have liked it too; but I didn't find one at WalMart.)
