Great concept, not the best product December 28, 2008 Eric (Shizuoka, Japan) We love the idea of this toy, different types of food, colors, and even letters. There are a few problems with it though. The little fridge unit keeps sliding down our fridge. Not sure if it's because we live in Japan and have a Japanese fridge or if the magnets just aren't strong enough for the weight. Not a big deal, we're going to use some double sided tape to keep it up. Also, the little door is hard to open. Even my nearly three year old asks me to open it for her so it's impossible for my 17 month to open it herself. Of course she loves to close the door. Also, some of the pieces are hard to take out of the fidge once they are in. It's a great concept for a toy and would be wonderful with a few changes. Both my daughters love it and play with it often, especially while I'm cooking. Pretty cheap too (even though I got it from Ross for the same price as amazon).
Another poor product from V Tech November 11, 2008 Nicholas A. Wroblewski (Loveland, Ohio United States) I bought this for my 2 kids a few months ago and they really like it. I agree that it is way too loud, it should have a volume control and of button. But my HUGE problem with this toy is that when you put the pieces in, it tells them the wrong information. For instance, when you put the milk piece in, it tells you all about the lemon, or the potato becomes a drumstick. I mean, really? And of course when I contacted V Tech about the problem they told me (after all of their "tricks" to reset it) that I could send it back to them AT MY COST and they would send me a replacement one. Now, why would I want to pay more money for a poorly designed toy? I have had huge problems with a lot of V Tech toys and will NOT be buying any more!!!
SEE HERE HOW TO FIX PROBLEM November 7, 2008 shopper8424 (los angeles, ca) I just bought this and debated returning it after reading all of the bad reviews. but I'm keeping it because 1) it's not that annoying 2)it teaches letters and colors AND good eating habits such as "try to eat lots of vegies...etc... 3) it also has a quiz portion which is really fun for learning the letters, or so I've seen with learning his colors, numbers, and shapes 4) my barely-speaking 2.2 year old son just said "eat an apple a day" because he has been playing with the exposed letter, A, while I researched whether or not to return it...and tears nearly came to my eyes. UPDATE AND PROBLEM SOLVED-we still really like this toy but over the last few days the problem some other reviewers encountered started happening to me...the toy took a life of it's own and started rambling on and on when not in use, and in the middle of the night. I put in new batteries and have not had the problem since then, so I believe that low batteries cause the toy to act in an erractic way.
fun, but wrong at times... September 21, 2008 A. Khalid (New Brunswick NJ) my son received this toy at 17 months...he loved his leap frog letter factory one, so we got him this, in hopes he would learn colors and foods. I think it is almost over-bearing with all that is going on in it. I dont think he really learns much from it, but i know he definatly likes to take the magnetic pieces out & put them back in. he also loves pressing the buttons. the educational value of this toy would have been higher, had the sounds to the letters been correct. Instead of saying F for fork, it will say something like R or S...its weird, and im not sure what went wrong in the reader, but it does not correctly state the colors, items, or letters. sometimes the E, Egg one will be in, and it will say that A is for apple... im like, but E is on the toy, not A. anyhow, enjoyable nonetheless. some may not approve, but as long as my son doesnt mind, i dont either.
Vtech Food Fun June 28, 2008 C. Krout I debated on whether to buy this or the leap frog word whammer or the leap frog fridge phonics. But, they had a ton of bad reviews about the letters not working properly. So, I went with this one. All I wanted was something where they put a letter into the machine and it told them what the letter was. This product doesn't do that. It tells them what letters to put in the machine (I'd rather my kids choose which ones to put in). Also, my 4 and 5 yr olds keep using it as a food identifier and not a letter one. Instead of finding the "L" he says the "lemon". The 3 buttons keep getting bumped into and so it changes the question / answer. Also, sometimes the fridge part slides down on the fridge and the foods/letters fall off the fridge a lot. I finally gave them a cookie sheet to play with it on. They play with it while I am busy in the kitchen. They really love it. It's not a bad product. It's just not exactly what I was looking for.
