Product Description
How do you get your team to say diamond, if you can't say baseball, ring, carats, jewel or engagement' You might say, "These are a girl's best friend. Hope is a huge one. The World Series is played here. Some are found in the rough." Get your team to say the secret word. Give suggestive sentences, funny phrases or even one word hints as clues. But don't use any of the words on the card. That's Taboo! Each time your team shouts out the secret word, you get a point. But be careful! Your opponents will be "looking over your shoulder" - making sure you don't say any of the Taboo words. If you do and they catch you, they sound the buzzer and score the point! It's unspeakable fun. Take our word for it! For 4 or more players. Game includes: 504 cards, card holder, buzzer, timer, score pad, and instructions. Requires 2 "AA" alkaline batteries (not included).

Editorial Review
It sounds so simple: get your team to name common words without voicing a few choice descriptors. But could you describe a wristwatch without mentioning time, wrist, or clock? Taboo rewards those who think--and speak--fast. The team that correctly identifies as many words as possible in a minute (measured with an hourglass timer) wins. If a member of the opposing team, armed with the blaring buzzer, catches the clue giver using any of the taboo words, a point is deducted from the group's score. It's a good idea to separate people who know each other well, because their familiarity can be too great an advantage. If the clue is spinach, prompting with "Mom made this every Monday" just doesn't seem fair, though it is permissible according to the rules. Playing Taboo requires an AA battery and a sense of humor--you'll need them both! The timer is included. Taboo is for four or more players. --Leah Ball

5 out of 5 stars Great for mixed crowds (old and young)!   January 6, 2009
Andrew J. Riemer (Winsted, MN United States)
My wife and I have been playing Taboo for years, but usually in pretty homogenous groups (i.e., other adults). Well, on New Year's Eve, we pulled it out and played with a large group, including adult friends, our kids, and our kids' friends. The result was a riot!

Some of the younger ones are at a disadvantage, since they don't know of some of the persons and things referenced on the cards. If the kids are spread across the teams, this works out okay. If you are playing adults vs. kids, then you may need to tweak the rules a bit (e.g., letting them get a number of free passes to go on to the next card). It was definately something we'll do again, and the kids brought a refreshing perspective to the game.

5 out of 5 stars Fun, classic, gets everyone energized   December 24, 2008

Taboo is a classic party game that is fun for a group of friends. It is easy to learn and the rules are simple.

Taboo works well for both groups that know each other well or don't know each other well as an early ice breaker. Setup is minimal and can be fun for everyone involved with very little "down time" for people to get bored.

I highly recommend getting Taboo for your home as it can be easily pulled out and played for any short or long period of time as a time filler.

4 out of 5 stars Fun   December 22, 2008

Fun game as long as you have enough people to play with (at least 4)

4 out of 5 stars Best Party Game   December 11, 2008
Anant Patel (San Diego, CA)
Our family do not do well with board games and party games. People cheat, we fight, and generally the night ends badly. But Taboo is non stop fun that is near impossible to cheat.

It's simply blurting out clues to a word without mentioning a blacklist of words. You give clues to your team while the opposite team checks the card for the blacklisted words. Tally points won and subtract errors for the final score.

We decided to buy the game for the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays, and had a great time. Heavy dinners and a few drinks make this by far the best game you can play with just the right amount of stimulation and brain work.

The best thing about this game is that it sets the par even, and almost anyone can play.

My only gripe about the game is the price and the limited available cards. But, Its enough fun that I'll fork out the money.

5 out of 5 stars Great game for battle of the sexes   December 3, 2008
P. Ng (ABQ, NM)
A great social party game. Opens up ways brains think a like! Sometimes the game gets on a roll as your minds sync up and you just know exactly what the person is saying without much hints and other times it just get challenging as you have no clue what is going on and have no way to articulate without the tabooed words. Great semantic game where you're trying to say words without literally saying them!
