2 out of 5 stars don't be misled   July 12, 2008
S. Buchholz (Washington)
Don't be misled by the word karaoke. I assumed it means you can plug into a tv, play karaoke CDs on it and sing to the words. All they mean by karaoke is that you sing into a microphone and your voice comes over the speakers. I am disappointed I did not investigate the product more. I think it is misleading to use the work karaoke to describe this product. Karaoke was not in the title of the product but it was in the product features.

In addition. The volume button is not easy for kids to use. There is quit a bit of the microphone feedback squeal the gets annoying. Seems durable so far. The screen to show what track it is on an such is very small and difficult to read.

Not worth the price.

3 out of 5 stars Didn't last as long as I'd hoped.   June 30, 2008

We bought this as a "big brother present" for our 2 1/2 year old when his sister was born. He loved it, dragged it all over the house, and of course, dropped it a few times. So four months later, the CD player is broken. There doesn't seem to be any kind of warranty on it--the manufacturer is in Hong Kong.

On the plus side, it's very portable and easy to operate, even for a 2 1/2 year old. We never had any problems with CD's skipping. And the volume limiter is a nice touch.

On the minus side, the microphones are LOUD. Those need their own volume control. But they are removable so if all you want is a CD player, just hide the microphones from your kids! It would be nice if the entire unit was rechargeable but using our own rechargeable batteries isn't too big a hassle. Also, it's not cheap.

All we really want is a durable, portable, kid-friendly CD player--we don't actually want the "sing-along" feature. I haven't been able to find that so I will be buying another one of these. My son will just have to be a lot more careful with it!

3 out of 5 stars Overpriced   June 28, 2008

I was hoping I would get a really good quality cd player for my 5 year old son. I paid 60.00 for this when it was not on sale here. The cd player skips and makes beeping noises sometimes while just sitting on a table. We have had it for 5 months. I would say this cd player would be better priced at 20.00-25.00

4 out of 5 stars Enviro - Mental Sing - Along CD Player   June 12, 2008
P. Jacobs (Atlanta, GA)
We purchased this at Christmas and it is still A LOT of fun for the kids. Half a year later, the only complaint I have is that the mircophones broke one at a time and it now is only a CD player.

Like I said though... It is still a hit!

5 out of 5 stars Big hit with our 3-year old   May 31, 2008

I bought the Enviro-Mental Sing-Along CD Player for my granddaughter for her 3rd birthday. Music is so important for development and brings such joy. We haven't had it long, so it's hard to rate durability at this point, but it seems sturdy and is withstanding handling by a 3-year old fine.

I picked this one because I liked the design and thought it looked sturdy and kid friendly, and it was exactly what I had hoped for. I thought she might not be able to operate it on her own, but little did I know she's a technology whiz and had no problem at all learning which buttons do what. I searched high and low for kid CDs with actual good acoustic music that the musicians in the family can enjoy too -- Elizabeth Mitchell's "You Are My Sunshine" and "On a Starry Night" by various artists under Children's Music -- so nice. But right now, my granddaughter's favorite thing in the world to do is run around the house, CD player in one hand, microphone in the other, singing the ABC song at the top of her lungs. Hopefully she'll branch out soon! Her nanny likes it too, and uses it to play the CDs for all of the kids in her care. I did not buy the AC adapter but got a battery recharger that holds 4 rechargeable C batteries instead. The batteries seem to last a long time, too, so it seems pretty energy efficient. I'm really happy with this choice.
