3 out of 5 stars Tons of fun, but not durable   July 2, 2008

I bought this LeapPad for my son last year and my son has been playing with it for a year now. Today I bought him a new LeapPad book and only half way through the new book, the LeapPad stopped working. At first I thought it was the batteries, but soon I figured out the problem is at the wiring of the pen. It only works when I hold the pen at a certain angle. But how can you tell a 4-year-old to hold it still all the time! It basically is a piece of junk now sitting in my garage.

My son has been playing with LeadPad products since he was 17 months old. The LittleTouch LeapPad worked great. The 2nd one (My First LeapPad) broke after one year. Now the 3rd LeapPad also broke after one year. LeapFrog really needs to improve the durability of their products.

My 6 year old grandson liked this so much his parents immediately went out and got one for the 7 year old and a few more games. He mastered it within a n hour and sat quietly at the table playing for an hour at a time.

5 out of 5 stars Great learning toy!   March 28, 2008
Javajane (DFW, TX United States)
This particular model stands out among the rest because the cartridge does not stick and and cannot have wear and tear put on it. Super great for learning, although sometimes the kids get out of hand with the writing utensil. It is removeable though and the machine works just as good.

5 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 and 6 year old love it   January 6, 2008

I got this for my 4 1/2 year old daughter for Christmas with the reading and writing book and she loves it - her 3 year old brother fights for a chance to read and write in it too. We also got one for our 6 year old nephew who is in Kindergarten with the dinosaur book and he loves it too - he loved how interactive it was and wanted to show us everything he was discovering.
