Great fun for an Apollo fan November 14, 2008 Anders Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden) I bought this rocket for my boy who is 2 years and 9 months old. He loves it! We have had it for a few weeks now, and he plays with it every day. Before buying it, we watched the Apollo 13 movie (with Tom Hanks) and while doing so, we discussed the different parts of the rocket. He displayed a surprising interest in the rocket, in particular the take-off scene, and me having a limited knowledge and interest in the Apollo project managed to explain the stuff in a manner that apparently was fun. It contains a surprising amount of realistic details, which makes it fun for us to interact, me to explain what it is, and he to spawn mental images of himself going with the rocket or being the rocket. In fact, I am amazed at how much imagination a boy at that age can have. We have also watched scenes in the Apollo 13 movie, e.g. at the beginning when the third stage (Saturn IVB) is mounted on top of the other two stages inside the Vehicle Assembly Building and then we pretend we do the same with our rocket. The only negative impression is that some parts of the rocket demands more careful fingers than my boy; for instance, the four walls that hides the lunar module have a too delicate mounting in the Saturn IVB stage; the pins break too easily and rather soon after opening the box, but on the other hand it is not recommend to children under age 3 and recommended for age 6 and above;-) In fact, I am surprised that it still holds together so well considering the rough treatment it gets.
Excellent 1/144 Scale Saturn V Model September 16, 2008 David Maier (Toluca Lake, CA USA) This is an excellent substitue for the Monogram 144 scale model kit. It actually is higher in detail, more rugged and better scaled than the Monogram Saturn V. It also fits perfectly with the 144 Launch Umbilical Tower model kit and Crawler Transporter. One note... I do not think it is the actual Buzz Aldrin version, as it does not show him on the package, as I'd seen before.
Buzz Aldrin Ultimate Rocket July 31, 2008 mlt2908 (Minnesota) We ordered this toy for my son's 9th birthday and he loves it. It is a good-sized rocket and the electronic "countdown" adds a realistic touch. The rocket is detailed and comes apart into the multiple stages and the capsule on top also breaks down into multiple pieces. My only complaint is that it is a little flimsier than I anticipated. It also might be a little difficult for a younger child to put together without assistance and also might not be appropriate if you are looking for a sturdy toy....it is a bit on the fragile side. All in all though, it is a great rocket toy and my son really enjoys it.
Our boys love it February 26, 2008 W. ANDERSON (Wisconsin, USA) Our boys, 6 & 4, just love the rocket and play with it a lot. The stages are too hard for them to put together, so Dad has to help out now and then. Very impressive toy, looks great standing in their room, good detail.
very detailed, but separates easily January 6, 2008 Rocket Dad (Washington, DC USA) This is a beautifully detailed and wonderful model. You can simulate each of the steps on the Apollo moon mission. The command module can separate from its thruster, and the hatch can open and you can see the 3 astronäuts. The LEM can be attached to the command module, and the LEM can land and "blast off" from its base. My only complaint and it is a minor one is that the 4 pieces of the rocket between the 3rd stage and the command module, which fold out beautifully to reveal the LEM, keep falling off. If you wanted to use this as instructional material it is great, but my 4 year old wants to hold it and zoom it around (like a rocket ship should), but it keeps falling apart when he does it.
