Amazon.com Product Description
Bring words to life for your little reader with the LeapFrog Learn to Read Complete Phonics System. Designed for children ages four through eight, this system provides three levels of phonics lessons designed by reading experts for use with the popular, innovative LeapPad Learning System, which is included in this set.

How It Works
The LeapPad Learning System works with specially designed books available from LeapFrog. Put a book on the LeapPad and the stories and lessons come to life! Simply touch words with the included pen to hear the words and the individual letters sounded out. Using the "magic" pen helps children with pre-writing skills, and the interactive books put so much fun in learning that your kids will keep coming back for more.

Phonics Made Fun
This Complete Phonics System comes with the innovative LeapPad, as well as with 12 books in three different learning levels designed by educators. Children can chart their learning with the included progress posters and stickers. In the first "Learn It" level, kids are introduced to phonics concepts in a method that is fun and easy for them to understand. They will learn letter names and sounds, including short and long vowel sounds, the concept of the silent "e," and more. When they move to the second "Practice It" level, kids can use the interactive Smart Cards and Activity Boards, and their newfound knowledge, in fun lessons that encourage them to spell more than 360 words! Finally, when they are ready for the "Read It" stage, your children can actually read the three "Read On My Own" books on their own -- and, if they need it, with help from the LeapPad.

What's in the Box
Read and Write LeapPad Learning System, comprehensive lesson plan in 12 fun books, 36 interactive Smart Cards, 3 Phonics Activity Boards, 3 Read On My Own books, and progress posters and stickers.

5 out of 5 stars So helpful in teaching my son to read!   November 16, 2008
Cari C (Illinois)
I purchased this to start teaching my 4 year old reading skills. This system was so easy to follow and broke down the entire process into segments. Before it, I really didn't even know where to start. Now we have purchased more books for the system and he is continuing to develop new skills. I love it.

4 out of 5 stars Purchased for my 4 year old   August 29, 2008
mom2ryan (GA, United States)
I purchased this item for my son and he loves it. Another reviewer suggested that you purchase directly from LeapFrog to get a better price. The price "may" be better but not the customer service. What I experienced with LeapFrog was customer non-service. The price went down on this item within days of my purchase and LeapFrog would NOT honor the new price. They could only tell me what they could NOT do for me. That is not customer service in my opinion. I will NOT purchase directly from LeapFrog again. Since I have this product and my son loves it I will purchase additional books - but NOT direct from LeapFrog.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good Reading System   April 18, 2008

As someone who is not very good at helping my son learn to read, this system is perfect. For the first time all year, he is finally reading books on his own, and is excited about reading! I feel this was very well worth the money, and is much less than it would have cost me to hire a tutor for him.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Learning Tool - Cheaper Elsewhere!   March 5, 2008

I purchased this Phonics program along with the 5 disc DVD set (Talking Letter Factory, Talking Words Factory I & II, Math Circus etc.). The two programs work very well together and have been a great teaching tool for my 3 year old. Although I am rating the product a "5", there are a couple drawbacks. If you are new to the LeapFrog LeapPad system, you must know that the "pen" (pointing device) is very sensitive and will not always work properly unless you point it DIRECTLY at the item you want to use. It takes a little practice for a young one to use, but they will get used to it. Besides, it is a very minor drawback and easily correctable...just re-point. The other drawback is that if you are buying it from this site, you are paying too much. Amazon...you get a great deal of my business, but LeapFrog sells this system for half the price at www.leapfrog.com! :)
