Product Description The fun way to learn world geography! Board game takes two to four players around the world, teaching countries, capitals and other interesting facts. Includes game board, playing pieces, postcards and instructions.
Editorial Review "Dear Pen Pal, Konnichi wa! We've been to see Mt. Fuji. Name my country! Sayonara, Michiko." Challenge your group with this fast-paced geography game, created in 1992 by Educational Insights, Inc. Everyone begins at the post office. Players twirl a finely printed spinner (built into the game board itself) to select one of 60 countries. If the player can correctly identify the country's location on the board's numbered map, he or she may advance along the path to the finish. Bonus moves are won by landing on "postcard" spaces, listening to the clues on one of the 40 postcards, and correctly identifying the pen pal's country. (The sample postcard above came from Japan.) A more challenging game can be achieved by requiring players to name the country's capital; answers are provided. --Liane Thomas

Great geography game! July 27, 2008 Agnes M. Penny (Whitehall, PA) Our family loves this game. It was a bit discouraging for the children at first because they kept being required to identify countries they'd never heard of, but the more we played, the more they learned, and now they know most of the countries. However, even after they've learned to identify all the countries (and there are a lot, some even I didn't know!), then we can make it more challenging by asking them to name the capitals. There are also blank cards so we can make up a few of our own postcards. It is true that the map is a little small, but this didn't really affect the educational or entertainment values of the game. We didn't play it non-stop when we got it so maybe that's why we didn't master so quickly and then get sick of it. We play it occasionally and always enjoy it.

I bought this for my 10 year old son as he loves geography. It is fun to play..we have family night once a week...he loves it and is so good at naming the countries. I would recomend this for all parents that want to boost their child's geography skills in a fun and entertaining way.
GREAT FAMILY BOARD GAME January 15, 2007 S. E. Pierce (BOSTON, MA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
THIS IS A GREAT EDUCATIONAL AND FAMILY GAME. MY TWO OLDEST CHILDREN (AGES 10 AND 12) HAVE LEARNED ALOT ABOUT WORLD GEOGRAPHY AND INTERSTING FACTS ABOUT DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. MY 6 YEAR OLD SON IS NOW STARTING TO PARTICIPATE AND LOVES TO LEARN ABOUT THE DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. WE ALSO HAVE THE BOARD GAME- NAME THAT STATE. THIS IS A FABULOUS GAME TO TEACH THE CHILDREN THE NAME, LOCATION AND CAPITAL OF EACH STATE. IT IS FUN AND AGAIN A GREAT FAMILY GAME

I got this game for my 5-year-old daughter, who loves geography. It became her favorite game in no time flat. You spin the spinner, read the continent and country, and try to find the country on the map. If you are successful, you get to move the given number of spaces on the spinner. At intervals, there are bonus "post-cards" that you can land on. From the hints on the postcard, if you can identify the country they're talking about, you get to move ahead 2 extra spaces. Within 6 months, my daughter knew all the countries on the board, so we added our own. I just printed out little tags and pasted them onto the other countries on the board, and we kept playing. After a year, she knows *all* (and I mean ALL) the countries in the world! She's so good, she beats the pants off anyone else she plays against, so we've modified the game again: now, she has to name the capital of the country as well as the location. That'll keep her challenged and interested for another year! Meanwhile, my 3 year old learned her continents and is beginning to learn her countries on the game. Granted, she can't read, but the spinner gives both the continent and the country. We read her the country and the continent, and then she locates it on the map. We don't do the post cards with her, as she's not knowledgeable enough yet. The point is, though, that the game is flexible enough for novices and experts alike! My only complaint--and it's a small one--is that the game board is too small. It is conceivably possible that you could identify 3 countries that move you ahead 6 spaces, and be at the end of the game. I would've liked a longer board (or fewer 6-spaces) to keep the game going longer.
Genuine Geography Skills June 3, 2005 Lilley (DFW, TX) 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
This game is a fun way to introduce geography. The manufacture recommends this game for 3 and up, while Amazon states 6 - 9. At our home it has been enjoy by children ages 4 -adult. The older children and adults do get tired a bit faster than preschool and younger school age children. It is easier to play the game with a child who can read - but even those with limited or no read skills can have fun. The game is bright and colorful. It captures your attention and imagination. This game teaches good basic map skills. Players state the names of countries by looking at them. If they don't know them, they quickly learn to recognize them.
