Product Description
Grades K and up. Europe's 2003 game of the year! Develops logic and spacial perception while kids learn to be tactical. Players take turns placing pieces on their board, each starting from their corner. Each new piece must touch at least one other piece of the same color, but only at the corners! The goal is to get rid of all your pieces. The game ends when all players are blocked from laying down any more of their pieces. Includes one gameboard with 400 squares, 84 game pieces in four bright translucent colors, and an instruction guide.
Amazon.com Product Description Fun for both kids and adults, Blokus is a strategy board game that challenges spatial thinking. Bright colors and simple rules make it ideal for ages five and up, but adults will certainly be engrossed by this unique and challenging game. Not Your Average Board Game Blokus encourages creative thinking and has received a Mensa award for promoting healthy brain activity. The goal of this game is for players to fit all of their pieces onto the board. When placing a piece it may not lie adjacent to the player's other pieces, but must be placed touching at least one corner of their pieces already on the board. The player who gets rid of all of their tiles first is the winner and strategic thinking helps as you block moves from your opponent. Blokus sometimes comes to an end because there are no more possible moves. Four players make this abstract game especially fast and exciting; however, it can be just as fun for two or three players. Blokus has come up with a number of different ways to play the game to make it more thrilling when playing with less than four players. Draft Blokus allows a player to use more than one color and Reverse Blokus reverses the entire game so that the person who places the least amount of tiles on the board is the winner. It can even be played in a solitaire version when one player attempts to place all of their pieces in a single sitting. A game of Blokus typically lasts a 30 minutes. As a practical feature, raised edges on the board help keep the tiles in place and allow convenient clean-up. This game includes 84 pieces in four vibrant colors, an instruction guide, and one gameboard with 400 squares. Blokus is simple to understand, but the game's complexity is revealed shortly after everyone begins to play. It can be addictive, even for those not normally into abstract games. Blokus is a catalyst for spatial thinking, as players form images in their mind before placing the pieces on the board. Children and adults can play together for hours of competitive family fun. As Europe's 2003 Game of the Year, Blokus is adored by many and even played in professional tournaments. What's in the Box 84 pieces in four colors, gameboard with 400 squares, and an instruction guide.
Once a piece has been placed on the board it can't be moved, so plan your moves carefully. |
Adding to the game's challenges, each new piece must touch at least one other piece of the same color, but only at the corners. |

Family fun at its finest! January 2, 2009 B. Moen (Seattle, WA USA) What an incredibly fun and entertaining game for the whole family! We originally purchased this game a couple of weeks ago to use as a "trailer game" to take with us on the road while we were out camping. Well, since opening up the box, we've spent at least 1-2 hours a day playing it. Now,our 6 year old and 9 year old kids keep begging us not to take it out to the trailer's cupboards, and leave it at home for us to play as a family instead! Needless to say, the game has been a big hit! In addition, for all of you educators out there in Amazon-land, I would highly recommend Blockus for use in a classroom or in a homeschool setting to teach logic, critical thinking, spatial relations, geometric sense skills, etc. Buy the game and have some fun!
Great strategy game for all ages to play together! January 1, 2009 Biblioholic Beth (Portland, Oregon USA) We bought Blokus for our 7-year-old son for Christmas, and it has been a hit - with all of us! It can be very challenging finding *good* games that we can all play together...us without getting bored and our son without being overly challenged. Blokus fits the bill perfectly. We have played together several times already, and each of us has won the game at least once. A nice bonus is that there are instructions not only for regular play, but for playing with one player, as well as team playing - it would be a terrific party game! The pieces and the board seem well made, the instructions are clear and easy to follow, and you can literally have the game set up and ready to play in about 3-4 minutes. I highly recommend this game for kids of all ages!
Teaches strategy January 1, 2009 C. Barden Blockus is a very strategical game. I think it is best used with 4 players though. My family only has 3 players, and I think the game is "slower" that way. It takes quite a few plays before the play becomes more difficult, and by then, my 5 year old is a little bored. She can handle a whole game, though. I would recommend Blockus, I think the game will become better the more we play and the more my daughter grows.
GREAT game ! ! ! December 31, 2008 Q in NJ I bought this for MYSELF (I'm 47) for Christmas after reading reviews. I took it to my boyfriend's house this past weekend to play with his kids, ages 16, 14 and 11. We were easily HOOKED !!! The game is very easy to understand, there is a lot of strategy involved. I would highly recommend this game !!!!
WHO KNEW THINKING AHEAD COULD BE THIS MUCH FUN December 31, 2008 PattyCakes (Coral, PA) My 10 year old daughter got this for Christmas this year. She loves this!!! I love playing it with her. I love watching her think!!! I rated this 5 stars for educational value just because of that....she really sits there and thinks of how she can block me and not herself....it's amazing!!! SHE'S GOOD!!! I'm not sure of the durability yet...let's face it...its plastic. But I can honestly say we have spent alot of time playing this game so far and I have not become bored with it...I really quite enjoy it.
